Foreo Luna 3 Review
This little gadget has been credited with transforming people’s skin. When I first heard about the brand Foreo, I was definitely in need of a skin transformation. The Foreo Luna 3 is a cleansing brush that is made of silicone and uses pulsations to provide a deeper clean than you can ever get with your hands. The Foreo website claims, “8,000 T-Sonic pulsations per minute reach into your pores and wash away dirt, oil, sweat, make-up residue, dead skin cells, and more. Sonic cleansing is when the brush oscillates at a precision-tuned frequency. This movement gently provides a deep skin cleanse without damage. The “T” in T-sonic Power stands for transdermal which means “through the skin”. With this pulsation technology, you should get a more glowing, refined skin texture.
This device comes in 3 colors for a more customizable experience. Pink is made for Normal skin types, blue is combination skin, and if you have sensitive skin like me, then you would pick up the purple version. You can also customize the intensity levels as there are 16 levels. As someone with sensitive skin, I am very thankful for this feature.
Experience
Because of this device, I look forward to washing my face. It’s like getting a face massage every morning. It’s very easy to use and in the same amount of time it took me to wash my face with my hands, I am now getting a deep clean. The best thing about the Foreo is I have that deep clean feeling all day.
When I first started using the Foreo Luna, I was on a very simplistic routine because my face was having an allergic reaction to something I was using and since I didn’t know what was causing it, I cut out everything and stuck with my tried and true basics.
Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser
EVA Naturals Vitamin C Serum
GlamGlow Waterburst Moisturizer
I had been using this simple routine for a couple weeks and my allergic reaction had calmed down. I then added the Foreo to the routine. On the first use, I set my Foreo to a low 6 intensity setting. My initial reaction was that this is the best clean I have ever gotten on my own. I noticed the second day of use, a bunch of my stubborn blackheads had pushed themselves to the surface. I was amazed.
One of the claimed benefits of this device is deeper clean allows your skincare products to penetrate the skin better. In my experience, the vitamin c I was using seemed to plateau in its benefits, but after the Foreo cleaning my vitamin c tingled like when I used it for the first time. This signals to me that the Foreo kind of hit a reset button and my skin had to get reacclimated to the high concentration of vitamin c. When applying the vitamin c, I simply flip the Luna over to the ribbed side and set a massage setting. Not only am I helping the vitamin penetrate the skin even better, but I am also getting a very good massage that helps to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
Hygiene
I’m not really a germaphobe except when it comes to my face. The Foreo brush is made of soft silicone brushes. This means it is very easy to clean. In the morning, I put my hand soap on it and wash the device, effectively washing my hands as well. I have read that some people like to spray them with alcohol. The website claims the Luna 3 is “35x more hygienic than nylon bristle brushes.”
Let us compare…
VS Washcloth
If you opt to use a washcloth, which can be a cheap option since many people already have one at home. The problem is they take a while to dry and easily accumulate bacteria because of it. At some point, if you are not changing your washcloth frequently, it becomes like washing your face with a dirty sponge. This can lead to infection and leave your skin worse off than when you started. The only way to make sure you are not using a bacteria-filled washcloth is to use a fresh washcloth every day.
VS Bristle Brush
Some people bristle brushes to cleanse their face. Bristle brushes can be great. They can be as easy to clean as a silicone brush, however, after continued use, you will have to replace the brush head because the bristles start to wear down and become harder to keep clean. It is recommended to replace the brush every 2-3 months. If you don’t replace the brush, you’ll be in the same boat as using a washcloth. In addition, as these bristles start wearing down, excessive use can start to damage the skin. Imagine how using a dirty abrasive bristle brush on your skin will do.
Traveling
There are smaller versions of the Foreo, but Luna 3 is a good size for travel. It comes with a little travel bag and barely takes up space in my bags. One of the best parts of Luna 3 is battery life. It comes out of the box fully charged and each charge can last 650 uses. I don’t have to worry about bringing a charger, but if needed this doesn’t use a special charger. I could use the same wire to charge my Foreo and my speaker. There are a variety of sizes for the Foreo device and you can choose the best size for you. The smaller sizes may be more beneficial for bringing the device to the gym.
Price
I went to pick this product up at my local Sephora and shoveled out my hard-earned coins (a pretty penny) for a Foreo Luna 3. The retail cost is a hefty $200. At first glance $200 is a lot of money to shell out on a face brush, but when you break down how much you will save on future cost it makes sense.
Clinique has a cult favorite electric face brush that people swear by. The brush will cost you on average $100. But the bristle brush heads need to be replaced every 3 months. The brush heads wear out and become frayed. At this point, the cleaning is not as effective and the brush becomes harder to clean. New brush heads will run you $30-$50. With the Foreo Luna, you will never need to replace the brush and after around a year, the Foreo Luna is definitely a better deal.
I would recommend looking out for sales on this device. There is no need to pay full price. I have also spotted older/smaller versions at my local TJ Maxx.
Although this device or any electronic face brush is not necessary for you to have nice skin: If you want to take your skin to the next level this is the device for you. I would definitely recommend it.
